Background Technique Workshop: distress inks and stencils

Hiya everyone,

as promised last week I've created a little workshop for you on how to work with distress ink and stencils to create a great background:

1. Take a blank sheet of paper or any high quality design paper you like. Make sure the paper isn't coated or glossy. I suggest the paper by Reprint as they are not only beautiful but also high quality and able to soak up the extra liquid of the ink.

2. Place a stencil of your choise on the paper. Make sure the table you're working on is covered with some old newspaper or foil as it will be hard to get the paint off the table.

3. Use a sponge dabber, small sponge or one of these fancy mini ink blending tools from the reprint shop.

4. Choose any distress ink you like. You can even pick several colors if you like. I went for Evergreen Bough and Weathered Wood, which you can also find in the store. Make sure to start with the brighter color and hold the sponge upright to add the ink. Start by making little circles from the outside towards the middle of the paper so the colors will blend even more nicely.

5. You're actually already done by now, but if you like, you can even add another layer by moving the stencil a bit or choosing a differnt stencil to work with.

6. Take another color and just let the magic happen...

The beat of your heart...

Hiya everyone,

it's been a long time since my last post here. Life's just been busy and I wasn't really able to make time for crafting. My plan for the rest of 2017 is to just make some daily time for myself, for crafting and for things I enjoy - such as playing with the great items from Reprint.

My 1st project this year is a square card which I've topped with the beautiful Reprint paper. I've picked the pale pink with the hearts and the grey dots. The paper is layered and I just ripped the edges in order to have a smooth overlay. The ripped area is cover with ink and glitter.

In order to add some depth I've used a stencil and some distress ink on the pink paper. I used the distress ink from Ranger called candied apple and shaded lilac. I will make a little workshop for next week in case you haven't used stencils before. It's really easy and you can create a great effect.

The stamp is one of my faves from Reprint - the beat of your heart is the rythm of your soul - so true!

A magic wand

Julkortsproduktionen är i full gång, och här är ett snabbt kort med en av de nya julstämplarna från Reprint. Texten är stämlad med svart Versa Fine och embossad med clear embossing pulver, ovanpå en bakgrund gjord med några olika nyanser av Distress ink och vattendroppar.

The Christmas card production is in full speed, here's a really quick card using one of the fabulous new Christmas stamps from Reprint. The text is stamped using a black Versa Fine ink pad, and embossed using clear powder, on top of a background made with Distress inks and water droplets.

Den söta ängeln har jag klippt ur från ett av Reprints nya klippark. Hon har fått ett lager Stickles Clear Rock Candy för en gammaldags glittrig effekt.

The sweet angel is fussy-cut from a Christmas label sheet from Reprint. I added a layer of Stickles Clear Rock Candy to get that vintage glittery feel.

The beat of your heart is the rhythm of your soul

Als ich heute meine Stempel durchforstet habe, ist mir ein sehr schöner Stempel von Reprint in die Hände gefallen. Es ist ein Herz mit dem Schriftzug "Ich liebe dich" in verschiedenen Sprachen. Einfach perfekt für eine kleine Notiz für die Liebsten.

As I ransacked my stamps today, this beautiful Teprint stamp has fallen into my hands. It is a heart with the words " I love you " in different languages. Perfect for a little note for the loved ones.

Die Herzen habe ich mit distress markern und den Schriftzug mit schwarzem Staz-On gestempelt. Das kleine Herz im Schriftzug ist paper pierced mit Reprint Papier in einen wunderbaren rosa. Zum matten habe ich ebenfalls Papier von Reprint benutzt, welches leider durch das Motiv gar nicht so gut sichtbar ist. Schaut es euch daher auf jeden Fall mal im Shop an. Es ist einfach toll für Vintage Motive und distress Schätze!

The heart I stamped with distress markers and the lettering with black Staz -On. The small heart in the lettering is paper pierced with Reprint paper in a wonderful pink. I've also used Reprint paper for matting the print, which is clearly not as visible as it should be, so make sure to check it out in the shop.
It's just great for vintage designs and distress treasure!

Ville bara säga HEJ!

Nya tekniker är alltid kul! Jag såg en youtube-video där det stämplades med vatten. Såååå coolt! Bakgrunden är gjord med den tekniken: vitt cardstock är infärgat med rejält mycket Distress ink (evergreen bough och chipped sapphire). Stämpeln fick en rejäl dush med vatten från min mini mister och sedan var det bara att göra som vanligt - stämpla.

It's so much fun with  new techniques! I saw a you tube video with water stamping. Soooo cool! The background is done with this technique: white cardstock was covered with (a lot) Distress ink (evergreen bough and chipped sapphire). The stamp was showered with water from my mini mister before stamping.

Bilden kommer från ett ark med retrobilder på fordon - perfekta när man vill göra lite mer maskulina kort.

The main image is an image from a sheet of cut outs with vehicles, perfect for masculine cards.

Loving distress ink

Distresserna från Ranger (stämeldynor och pennor) är vattenlösiga och erbjuder oändliga användningsområden. Jag älskar att leka med distresser! :) Här har jag använt dem på två sätt. Först direkt på stämpeldynan (blomman), först stämplade jag en gång och sen en andra gång bredvid utan att lägga till mer färg. Det andra stämpalavtrycket blir blekare och ser ut att vara lite längre bort på ängen ... Sen har jag även använt dem för bakgrunden (gräs och himmel). Här duttade jag lite färg på ett craft shett, sprayade vatten på och "doppade" pappret i dropparna för att få en akvarellkänsla.

The distress inks from Ranger (pads and markers) are water soluble and can be used in a million different ways. On this card, I used two different techniques. First, I added ink directly to the stamp and stamped once. Then I stamped a second time just beside the first one which leaves a much softer impression. Then I added some ink to a craft sheet, sprayed it with water to create little droplets and padded the paper right into it to create the sky and grass.

Ofta är akvarellpapper att föredra när man jobbar med distresser, men för dessa tekniker fungerar det bra med ett slätt vitt cardstock. Texten är stämplad med Versafine för bästa tryck och för att det inte riskerar att smetas ut då den är vattenfast.

Usually, I prefer watercolor paper when I work with distress inks, but for both of these techniques regular smooth card stock works just fine. I stamped the text using a Versafine ink pad for best impression.

Angels are watching over you

Har man en fantastiskt vacker stämpel behövs inte mycket mer än den, lite cardstock och stämpeldynor för att göra ett kort.

If  you have a really beautiful stamp, you don't need much more than the stamp, some cardstock and ink to make a card.

Änglarna är stämplade med Adirondak Pitch Black ink och färglagda med Spectrum noir pennor. Sedan maskade jag dem och stämplade texten och clear embossade den. Kanterna maskades med tejp för att få en vit ram och sedan färgades det hela in med blå nyanser av Distress ink. Lite glitter på vingarna så var det klart. Snabbt och enkelt.

The Angels are stamped with Adirondak Pitch Black ink before colored with Spectrum noir markers. Then I masked them off and clear embossed the sentiment. The edges was masked off with tape to get crisp white edges and then the panel was inked with nuances of blue distress inks. Some stickles on the wings and it's done. Quick and easy.

Playing with tags

Tags är perfekta som underlag om man vill testa nya tekniker eller som här bara leka loss lite. Den här gången blev resultatet en trio tags i olika färger, med bevingade vänner som det gemensamma temat.

Tags are the perfect base for trying out new techniques, or as I did here, simply for playing around. This time I ended up with three tags, where all contain "friends with wings".

Bakgrunderna är infärgade med Distress inks i olika färger. Jag använde en Ink Blending Tool för att få jämna övergångar. Sedan sprayade jag några gånger med vatten i en mini mister, där jag blandat i en knivsudd Perfect Pearls för att få lite skimmer i bakgrunden. Eftersom Distress ink är vattenlösligt så fördelar sig Distress inken fint över hela tagen när den blir lite fuktig.

The backgrounds are made with Distress inks in different colors. I used an Ink Blending Tool to get the ink spread out evenly. Then I misted water with just a hint of Perfect Pearls, using my Mini mister. Since the Distress ink is water soluable, the ink then spreads nicely over the tag when it gets moist.

Sedan stämplade jag med olika collagestämplar och en splashstämpel, jag använde Versafine stämpeldyna eftersom den är vattenfast och tar fram de fina detaljerna i stämplarna.

I used collagestamps and the splash stamp on the tags, stamping them with Versafine ink pad since it is water resistant and brings out the details in the stamps.

Bilderna är urklippta ut klippark. Vingarna är från collagestämplar som jag stämplat på vitt cardstock och klippt ut bara vingarna. Lite Stickles på de sköra vingarna glänser fint i solen. Jag har förstärkt texten i collagestämplarna med vit penna.

The images are from cut-out sheets. The wings are from collagestamps that I stamped on white cardstock and fuzzy cut only the wings. A little Stickles on the wings makes them look almost transparent. I enhanced the text on the collage stamps with a white gel pen.

Björnen sover...

Ett enkelt upplägg passar ofta bra om man ska göra många kort, som t.ex. vid inbjudningar. Denna söta nalle passar lika bra till dop som till kalas. Färgerna går i lime, rost och vitt. Nallarna är färglagda med Distress ink.

A simple lay-out is suitable if you're going to make many cards, such as invitations. This cute teddybear fit nice to both baptism and birthday partys. Colours are lime, rust and white. The teddybears are colored with Distress ink.

Nallen och bokstäverna är skuggade för att få dem att "poppa" upp.

The teddybear and the letters (a phrase from a children song) are shaded to make them "pop" up.

3 Simple Cards for Easter

Today I´m gonna show you three really simple Easter cards that really puts Reprint´s beautiful stamps in focus. To start with I used a white, smooth cardstock so the stamps really show. I chose three different stamps from Reprint and one Easter greeting text.

On the first I used a luscious fern stamp (OM1131I) and four different green Distress Ink Pads:

On the second is a delicate anemone flower stamped with four different yellowish Distress Ink Pads:

On the third I used a beautiful butterfly stamp and four different purple Distress Ink Pads:

As you can see I used the same Easter greeting on all of them using a Tuxedo Black ink pad from Memento.

Distress ink over embossing

Distressfärgerna från Ranger är vattenlösliga och har delvis samma användningsområden som akvarellfärger. Här har jag använt distressrefiller och vattenpensel för att skapa en bakgrund med olika nyanser. Refillerna är mycket koncentrerade, så en droppe räcker långt!

The distress range from Ranger are water soluble and can in many ways be used as water colors. Here I used the Distress refills and a waterbrush to create the background in different shades. The refills are highly concentrated, so one drop goes a long way!

Innan jag färgade in bakgrunden så stämplade jag motivet med en versamark dyna och embossade med clear embossingpulver. När jag sedan lade på distressfärgen så fungerade embossingen som en resist och stämpelmotivet förblev vitt som pappret. Jag har använt några av Reprints nya blommor som dekoration.

Before I made the background, I stamped and embossed the sentiment with clear embossing powder. When I then added the distress ink, the embossing acted as a resist and the stamped areas stayed white as the paper. I used some of the new Reprint flowers as decoration.

ATC on Christmas cards

Artist Trading Cards är unika kort som man byter med andra likasinnade. Jag hade förberett ett helt gäng kort i ATC-storlek av akvarellpapper, att användas när andan faller på. Mitt i julkortsproduktionen fick jag syn på högen med tillskurna kort och tänkte att de kommer nog att passa perfekt även på julkort! Just denna typ av bakgrund som jag gjort med distresser och vatten är perfekt att göra på akvarellpapper, men det fungerar även med vit cardstock.

Artist Trading Cards are unique cards to be traded with other crafters. I had prepared a whole bunch of ATC sized cards in watercolor paper, to be used whenever I would get the urge. Which I actually did during the Christmas card production! The type of background that I did, using Distress ink and water, is perfect on watercolor paper, but regular white cardstock will also work.

På det första kortet stämplade jag en enkel stjärna med embossingdyna och embossade med vitt pulver. Sedan strök jag ut lite blå distressfärg från en dyna på mitt craftsheet, sprayade över lite egengjord glimmermist och drog sedan kortet genom färgdropparna. Resultatet blir alltid härligt oförutsägbart med denna teknik!

For the first card, I stamped a simple star with embossing ink, then heat embossed it using white powder. I smeared some Distress ink on my Craft sheet and sprayed some home made glimmer mist over the ink. I dragged the card through the droplets, and the result was, as always with this technique, wonderfully impredictable!

Fågeln stämplade jag på en bit akvarellpapper, klippte ut och målade med distresser och vattenpensel.

The bird was stamped on a water color sheet, fussy cut and painted with Distress ink and a water brush.

Det andra kortet är gjort på precis samma sätt, det är bara stämplarna och färgerna som är annorlunda. Den egengjorda glimmermisten gör jag i en Mini mister med en knivsudd Perfect pearls och vatten nästan upp till kanten. Allt man sprayar blir härligt glittrigt!

The second card is done in exactly the same way, just using different colors and stamps. In case you plan to make your own glimmer mist, this is how I do it: A little Perfect pearls in a Mini mister, fill her up with water, give it a shake and you are good to go. Everything sprayed will get wonderfully sprakly!

Stjärnformat kort

Att göra kort med annorlunda form är roligt, och det är också kul att få. Här är ett kort i stjärnform som går att öppna. Framsidan är klädd med ett ark ur Reprints Basic Collection, som jag för övrigt gillar väldigt mycket.

Making cards with different shape is fun, and it's also fun to get. Here's a card in a star shape that can be opened. The front is covered with a sheet from Reprints Basic Collection, which I also like very much.

Som jag visat vid ett tidigare tillfälle har jag "maskat" paketen på varandra. Det är alltså bara en paket på stämpelmotivet, men jag har maskerat och stämplat igen och igen för att få paketen att stå bakom varandra. Efter det färglades de med hjälp av Distress ink. Sist sattes rosetten dit.

As I have shown on a previous occasion I have "masked" the bithday gifts on each other. So this is just one birthday gift on the stamp design, but I have masked and stamped again and again to get the packets to stand behind each other. Then the color was added with the aid of Distress Ink. Last but not least, the bow was added.

Du kan ju lika gärna välja att använda julens färger och göra ett julkort.

You might as well choose to use the Christmas colors and make a Christmas card.

Hi everyone and I might have to apologize for the lame title, but I couldn´t help myself....

As you might have guessed today´s posting is about tags and I made THREE with the new adorable kitten stamps that Reprint´s releasing this fall.

On this one I stamped with  a Christmas stamp  using using a watermark stamp pad and embossed it with clear embossing powder. Then I used my distress ink pads and the distress tool to color the tag.

The second tag is made with Reprint´s A4 paper using the tag die from Tim Holtz. I also stamped with the star birthday stamp and doodled a bit:

The third one is also made with Reprint´s A4 papers and the same die:

ALL the stamps are colored with Spectrum Noir pens.
